2019 was a storybook season for the St. Louis Blues, going from last-to-first to bring home the city’s first ever Stanley Cup. But the Blues weren’t the only inspiring story of the season. 11-year-old Laila Anderson’s fight against an incredibly rare immune disease – and her special bond with Blues players – touched the hearts of not only St. Louis, but all of America.
But America only saw part of the story.
Cannonball pitched St. Louis Children's on creating a 30-minute original documentary film that told the story behind the story, unveiling what really happened during and after Laila’s journey and the Blues Stanley Cup run became forever linked. It was immediately green-lit, and we went to work developing the story outline and overseeing production. The film premiered in prime-time on Fox Sports Midwest and ran five times in nine days.
The documentary went beyond catching viewers up on the little girl who captured their hearts – it shined a light on the medical breakthroughs and inspiring stories that are possible at St. Louis Children’s.
